Friday the 13th.  Did not get much sleep at the Stratton Pond (Hilton) Shelter due to a very loud snorer.

Early start at 7:15 am and a fairly easy day.  Arrived at the crossing of VT 11/30, which is the road to Manchester, at about 3:30 pm.  Hitchhiked for the first time in about 20 years and got picked up by about the 10th car for a ride into Manchester.  The trail was very muddy throughout the day and my knee really hurt in the morning but felt better in the afternoon.

Checked into a boarding house in Manchester, called Sutton Place, that caters to hikers.  The proprietor of Sutton place is a guy named Frank.  Went to Rite Aid for a knee brace, Ben Gay and ibuprofen for my knee troubles.  My knee is swollen and I am limping very noticeably around Manchester.  Had an enjoyable shower and then had an excellent dinner at the steakhouse in Manchester. After dinner, went back to Sutton Place and hung out with Blue jay and an AT thru hiker from Concord, MA.

Hiked 10.6 miles today.

Stratton Mountain Fire Tower - escaping the hail storm

Stratton Mountain Fire Tower - escaping the hail storm

Got started at 8:45 am and had the wildest day yet.  Easy hike in the morning and then a much tougher hike up Stratton Mountain.  Climbed the Stratton fire tower and while at the top, it started to hail.

Hiked for about 20 minutes in a hailstorm.  I also twisted my left knee on a root, which made going very slow.

Arrived at Stratton Pond Shelter very wet, cold and tired.  This is a new modern shelter with a loft and capacity for quite a crowd, which we had, including: Grizzly & Lisa; an AT thru hiker from TX and 3 AT section hikers.

Hiked 10.6 miles today.
